We had a cracking game of rugby at Underhill today,with both teams putting in a great effort. Fall Bay took an early lead with a superb score in their first attack of the game,but we rallied to get two converted tries of our own and run out winners 14-7.
We dominated the first half after conceding the early score,with scrum half Jack powering his way over from short range and big Joe Phillips creating a clean break to gallop over from a full 40m,before the half time break. Both touchdowns were converted by Myles.
Fall Bay put us under relentless pressure in the second half as they went in search of an equalising score.They went close a number of times,just knocking on before crossing our line on one occasion.
Our defence held firm and with no score in the second period we held on for a narrow,hard earned win.
A great game of rugby with both sides playing their part. Well done boys!!

Pontyberem semi spot!!
The boys played some cracking rugby in the tournament at Pontyberem on Sunday. It was clear that we had been drawn in the" group of death" with Burry Port,Kidwelly and Crymych to keep us company but we battled our way through to the semi-final stages.
First up was a tough game against a well organised Crymych team whose defence was tremendous. We put immense pressure on them,with wave after wave of attack but they held firm until just before the end.Ewan and George J got us the tries to seal a 10-nil win.
Next,we faced a very strong Burry Port side,narrowly losing a close game by two tries to nil.
It all hinged on the final pool game which promised to be a tough encounter against a big and pacy Kidwelly outfit.As all the parents looked on the tension was almost unbearable but we were simply superb,blowing them away three tries to nil with tries from Ewan ,George J and The "dynamo" Joe Phillips.
So,we progressed to the semi-final to play a strong home side (Pontyberem) where we played some great stuff again,but couldn't quite reproduce the efficiency and power from the Kidwelly match. We certainly battled hard,but lost out 15-5, Joe Phillips getting the touchdown again.
Well done lads,it was a great day and we all enjoyed watching you play some wonderful rugby!!!

Unbeaten Stingrays!!
The Stingrays returned from Bridgend unbeaten today after putting together four organised and committed performances.
First up were Nantyffyllon and the boys dominated the match, scoring two lovely tries;
Nantyffyllon 0 Stingrays 10 (tries Joe Phillips x 2)
Next,we faced Porthcawl,w hich was a close game where both sides ran well!
Porthcawl 0 Stingrays 5 (try ; Ewan Gully)
The third fixture was a tough,physical battle with Loughor,but Stingrays again dominated the forward exchanges to just edge the result;
Loughor 5 Stingrays 10 (tries: Ewan Gully and Sam Jones)
Finally, our friends from Fall Bay stood between the Stingrays and an unbeaten afternoon and the game certainly lived up to its headline billing!! It was brutal as both sides desperately wanted to walk away victorious. Fall bay scored a superb early try only to be pegged back by a fierce Stingray assault on their try line.
We got a great try to level and continued to dominate the forward exchanges, before Fall bay got back in front with a nicely worked score.
Stingrays were not beaten though and they took the game to their opponents again, gliding in for a simple try after more power plays up front.
Fall bay 10 Stingrays 10 (tries Ewan Gully and Callum Evans)
The boys should be pleased and proud of their efforts and we all enjoyed a fantastic afternoons action in the sun. Lets hope the weather is just as kind in Leominster for the Anglo-Welsh tournament.
WELL DONE TO YOU ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!

Parking for today's Tournament (Apr 5)
I've been advised that parking could be problematic for the Ospreys Cup Tournament in Bridgend!
The best (closest) place to try is the Recreation Centre (CF31 4AH),which is opposite the Newbridge playing fields. However, there are a number of teams playing in the morning, so this is likely to be well used.
If you end up using one of the streets, please be careful where you park as the majority are 'resident permit' controlled.
Alternatively, you can try Bridgend Athletic club (CF31 3HP) which is about a 5 minutes or so walk away.
See you all there.

Ospreys Cup Tournament - Sun April 5
The tournament takes place this Sunday afternoon at Bridgend Athletic playing fields. Our squad will need to arrive for 1.30pm which will allow us some warm up/team prep time.
We will be playing group matches against Nantyffyllon, Porthcawl, Fall Bay and Loughor.
Our last game is scheduled to be against Fall Bay, kicking off at 16:30.
Directions;
Exit M4 at junction 37 and head towards Bridgend on the A48 (beware speed camera in 50mph section). Go straight over Broadlands roundabout then look for a left turn into Merthyr Mawr Road. Playing fields on left hand side, just off Bowham Avenue

Check out the map on the Bridgend Athletic website, http://www.bridgendathleticrfc.com/extras.htm
For those with new fangled Sav Nat thingies, a good target is CF31 3PA which should take you to Bowham Avenue, right next to the playing fields.

Sunny Dunvant!
Dunvant 44 Stingrays 0
The boys tried hard to compete with a good Dunvant team on the wide open spaces of Broadacre,but unfortunately came off second best whilst not managing to get on the scoreboard!! There were plenty of positives to take out of the game and we'll go away,regroup and learn from some harsh lessons with the view to improving for our next meeting.
Morriston Bulls 5 Stingrays 25
On the usual size pitch with the more familiar 12 a side format,the boys showed exactly what we know they are capable of,with our forwards dominating a considerably larger Bulls pack,paving the way for a comfortable victory.Efficient rucking,clean ball and some nice running from backs and forwards resulted in some fabulous tries.Great rugby boys!!!
Tries - Gareth,George,Harry (2),Joe phillips
Player of the morning was awarded to Dan Padfield who consistently gave 100%,showing great skills,plenty of power and determination !Nice one Dan

EDF semi final OSpreys v Gloucester
AS you all know,the O's will be playing Gloucester in the EDF semi final on SAT March 28th. We thought it might be a nice idea to get together and watch the game down at the club ,so the big boys and girls can enjoy a beer or two and the lads can enjoy watching the action together!!!?
We could organise some food etc ,as the Blues play Northampton Saints straight after, and make a bit of an afternoon social of it. (be good to put a bit of cash over the bar down the club too)!!!
We will have to run this by Skinny of course,so I would be grateful if you could all let me know if you might be up for it. Cheers
Any ideas to develop the idea welcome!!

Classy Penclawdd Set The Standard!!
Stingrays were well beaten this morning over at Penclawdd! Both sides were depleted by illness but we were all keen to have a game,and we thoroughly enjoyed the morning.
The boys battled hard throughout but Penclawdd proved to be too strong with a good forward platform providing plenty of ball for a very talented back line to exploit!
We definitely suffered from the fact that we had to play too many boys in positions they were not familiar with and although our forward effort was typically committed,we didn't play with anywhere near the structure we have been used to in recent weeks!! We certainly had our moments in what proved to be a real physical challenge,and Harry deserved his well taken try after one of his trade mark runs. Dan was man of the match,putting in a solid all round display packed with powerful runs,big hits and great skills(well done mate).
Thanks to the Penclawdd boys for their warm welcome and we look forward to playing them again in the very near future! You've got to test yourself against the best to learn and from what we've seen, Penclawdd are definitely setting the standard at under 11!
Final Score;
Penclawdd 40 Stingrays 5

Put It Down To Experience!!!
Gowerton,Sunday 1st Feb! - one the boys will remember for quite some time I think, and not in a very positive light unfortunately!!
Having been on the receiving end of very poor refereeing in the corresponding fixture last season we probably knew we wouldn't be given many favours, but no-0ne could foresee the deliberate, cycloptic rubbish we had to endure today. Basically we were refereed off the park by someone who was determined to hand a victory to the home side and the boys recognised this only too well. In 40 minutes of what was a fierce contest up front, we were awarded zero penalties and a couple of scrums compared to in excess of twenty penalties and numerous scrums. To sum up the ref said "I only ref it as I see it". Therein lies the problem,because he was clearly only looking for infringements from us!!!
However, the boys stuck to the task and battled on regardless,producing some powerful counter rucking with some strong runs and big hits. Overall, we were a little below par but still deserved more for our efforts. The TMO (Gowerton coach/parent) disallowed a perfectly good try in the first half and the ref echoed the effect late on in the second! (choosing to award a penalty to the home side instead).
Result: Gowerton 12 Stingrays 7
(Allowed) Tries: George
Cons: Callum
Refereeing is a thankless task and everyone realizes that mistakes will be made (frequently), but both teams have the right to expect fair play and equal treatment! Today was unfortunate but there won't be a third time!
Mom - Ewan Gully
Another outstanding, totally committed effort from Ewan! Some powerful runs, massive hits and great rips. Great stuff mate!
Player Of The Month - Jake Davies
Enjoyed a great month in matches and training. Jake has consistently produced the goods this month. Well done mate,keep it going!

Uplands Feel The Sting from the Rays!!!
Stingrays put in a powerful performance this morning,in beating Swansea Uplands 70 points to nil! The boys were clearly eager to get stuck in after the Christmas break and produced some sensational rugby to overwhelm our opponents.The forwards were direct,producing loads of clean ball with some ferocious rucking,and the backs were slick and clinical.Our defence was strong and organised,offering very few opportunities for the UPS to get over our line and we showed a great determination to leave them pointless!
Well done lads,a great start to the new year!
Tries: Callum (2),George J (4),Harry(2),Jake (2)
Cons: Callum (7),ED (2),and Flynn
MOM was awarded to George who contributed 20 points and led the forwards charge!
Top scorers so far this season;
1 George J - 105 points(21 tries)
2 Callum - 97 points(5 tries and 36 conversions)
3 Harry - 82 points(16 tries and 1 conversion)
